Flowers in a Yellow Vase

Description
‘Flowers in a Yellow Vase’ is medium sized and painted onto an artist’s quality stretcher. The colour of the paint is rich and bright. In some parts the paint is very visibly thick and impasto. All over the canvas that the artist’s brushstrokes and palette knife work can clearly be seen. The painting is framed in a high quality, hand-made frame made to fit at Strange Frames, Glasgow.
Flowers are a traditional subject for artists because they have bright, expressive colour and they say something about beauty, life and death. For around a year my painting focused on flowers and was inspired by the work of Vincent Van Gogh. I see myself as painting in the same tradition as Van Gogh, European Expressionism.
“Normality is a paved road: It’s comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow on it.”
