‘Girl with a Tartan Shawl’ is medium sized original oil painting on canvas, signed by the artist.

This piece is inspired by my love of Scottish painting, in particular the ‘pastoral portraits’ of children working and playing in rural Scottish landscapes done by The Glasgow Boys. I paint from my imagination because it is the most exciting and free. But the girl in this work looks maybe like my wee daughter could one day. I like to paint Scottish things because I am passionate about my country and the tradition of painting here. Since art school I have been captivated by the idea that there is an art that is unique to this land.
