‘Hope’ is a small original oil painting on canvas.
I love painting children and although I paint from imagination this one became something of portrait of my little daughter. I love painting children because they can exist purely in the world of the picture, without any politics – just art, colour and feeling. Usually I paint my subjects into a landscape but this picture became really intimate so instead there are just little daisies, intense red and the word ‘HOPE’. I loved trying to keep the eyes so blue and fresh while the background became more red. The expressive flowers are painted with such thick paint because I was feeling so strong and instensely by the time the work was nearing completion.
