‘Highland Twilight’ is a large original oil painting on canvas, signed by the artist.
I am moved by the light effects that come as night turns to day. And I have long loved Highland cattle as a symbol of the hardy, peaceful people of Scotland. In this picture I have used vivid colour and expression to catch that special time between night and day. And I’ve placed the cattle sitting in tranquility as night descends.
An old Scots excerpt in J.Christie’s ‘Instructions for Hunting’, 1817, hints at the feeling:
“Go to that well to your first wark, ‘Twixt sun and sky before’t grows dark.”
